MHS Clubs/Activities for 2020-21

 

 

Activism Club:  The Activism Club is a place for students who are interested in activism to voice their opinions, learn about current events, and get involved in making positive change to their school and community. Activism club is welcoming of all students. Sponsor: Mrs. Scamacca

 

Best Buddies:  Works to establish a friendship between students with and without disabilities.  Sponsor: Mrs. Bell

 

Black Student Union:  MHS's BSU seeks to empower students of African heritage to positively impact the community so that stereotypes may be eliminated, ignorance may be eradicated, and cultural differences may be enhanced. We build community among students of color and empower one another to be the best we can be.  Sponsor: Mrs. Presley

 

BPA:  BPA is a club that allows students to participate in business competitions and meet students from other schools and states.  Sponsor:  TBD

 

Cross em" Up Jump Rope Team:  Cross em’ Up focuses on promoting an active lifestyle while learning the fundamentals of the sport of jump rope. We explore single rope, wheel, double dutch, traveler, long rope, and power skills popular within the sport. When possible we attend workshops held by other teams in the Midwest and compete at local competitions. It is a sport for all levels of athletic ability with limitless opportunities to have fun with a rope.  Sponsor: Mrs. Summerlot

 

Drama Club:  Promotes acting and improvisational skill for students who are interested in theater arts. Sponsor: Mrs. Kassen

 

Dungeons and Dragons Club:  Let your imagination wonder as you partake in an adventure with others through a land full of mysteries, puzzles, and danger. Do not let your guard down as even your closest companions could betray you. Join the D&D club to partake in these adventures which are available to those with all experience levels. Sponsor: Mr. Mitchel

 

Earth Club:  Earth Club is a club that is focused on learning about our impact on the Earth and what steps we can take to reduce any negative impacts.  Sponsor: Mrs. Burger

  

FFA:  Develop leadership, personal growth and career success all through learning about agricultural education.  Activities include judging contests, leadership contests and community service.  Sponsor:  Mrs. McCreary

 

F.O.R.Club:  The Friends of Rachel Club is dedicated to promoting five challenges to the students and community through a variety of activities.  This club is part of a larger, world-wide movement that was initiated by Rachel Scott’s parents. Rachel Scott was the first student killed at the Columbine massacre in April 1999. Rachel was a kind and compassionate person who wanted to change the world with a “chain reaction of kindness.” It is the club’s goal to encourage everyone to speak with kindness, look for the best in others, choose positive influences, dream big, and start your own chain reaction. GSA:  The mission of the Gay Straight Alliance is to create a safe environment for students of all orientations and identities. Anyone is welcome to join. Sponsors: Mrs. Scamacca and Mrs. Burger

 

HOSA:  The mission of HOSA is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration, and experience. Students in HOSA raise awareness for various aspects of healthcare, learn from healthcare professionals, and have the opportunity to compete against other HOSA chapters.  Sponsor: Mrs. Dow

 

Iron Sharpening Iron:  This club meets every Tuesday and Thursday morning in the North Gym at 7:30.  Students in this club gather to help grow the love of Jesus Christ and to pray for the MHS Community.  Sponsor: Mr. Brewer

 

JSA:  Junior Sate of America is a club that meets after school and discusses current events.  Sponsor: Mr. Zollman

 

Key Club:  Key Club is the oldest nationally recognized student-led service organization, our motto is “Caring – Our way of Life.” Through Key Club's work in the home, school, and community, Key Club members have learned that their organization is built around the concept of caring. Key Club provides its members with opportunities to serve others, develop character, and encourage leadership. Sponsor: Mrs. Richhart

 

Math Academic Competitions:   Prepares students to be part of the math academic team which competes in math competitions.  Sponsor:  Mrs. Vaughan

 

National Honor Society (NHS):  Any junior or senior who has a minimum grade point average of 3.3 at the end of the first semester is eligible for possible selection into the National Honor Society.  These students receive an activity form to complete and must write an essay about why they would like to be a member.  Selection is based on four criteria:  scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Sponsor: Mrs. Eickhoff

 

SADD:

 

Robotics:  Introduces students to engineering and innovative engineering principles while preparing for robotic competitions.  Sponsors: Mr. Yoder and Mr. Shafer

 

Spanish Club:  Students will be able to participate in cultural activities that highlight the Latin culture. Sponsor: Ms. Robinson

 

Student Council: MHS Student Council is a member of the Indiana Association of Student Councils and has maintained an Honor Council status for the past 13 years. The council consists of the student body co-presidents, four officers from each class, and representative members. MHS Student Council is dedicated to improving the school culture by increasing community involvement, school spirit, and leadership through various projects. Follow us on Twitter at @mhspioneerstuco. Twice as Nice: Twice as Nice is a service organization.  We sponsor a prom dress resale program that collects new or gently used prom dresses and accessories and then sells them to MHS students at a significantly discounted price.  Our  goal is to supply the wardrobe needs for prom at a low cost with the hope of sending as many students to prom as possible!  Funds raised as part of the sale are donated to local Mooresville charities.  Sponsor: Mrs. Bunette
