CAFETERIA MANAGER – NORTH MADISON   

POSITION IS 180 DAYS, 5 DAYS PER WEEK, 6.5 HOURS PER DAY.   

JOB DESCRIPTION AS FOLLOWS:   

Food Service-Elementary Cafeteria Manager 

Benefited Position  

180 days a year 6.5 hours a day & ½ hour non-paid lunch   

Reports to:  

Food Service Director  

Duties:  

  1. Must be able to work the hours scheduled by management. Normally between the hours of 6:30 am and 2:00 pm, on weekdays, when school is in session.
  2. Must be able to work in all areas of the kitchen.
  3. Train new cafeteria staff.
  4. Supervises food service workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety, well-being and productivity of the food service workers assigned to their building.
  5. Oversees special events and catering events for various school organizations.
  6. Oversees and participates in the cleaning of kitchen and related areas.
  7. Directs sanitation procedures.  Must hold a food handler certificate or able to get one within six months of employment. 
  8. Plans, directs and participates in preparation and serving of all food in the cafeteria.
  9. Make sure hot food is HOT and cold food is COLD in accordance with food safety regulations. 
  10. Follow the food service menu calendar by date and description.
  11. Make sure standard recipes are used. If there is not one, write one.  Plans and schedules all employees, arranges for subs whenrequired, maintains employee time cards.
  12. Responsible for food, supplies, revenue and cost.
  13. Maintains records on food and supplies that are received and used.
  14. Maintain accurate production records per state guidelines. Properly plans for menu items so that all students have the choices planned.  Notifies Food Service Director of any issues with regards to shortages on food items.
  15. Responsible for ensuring all shelves are stocked and items are properly stored.
  16. Make sure all supplies are rotated. First-in, first-out.
  17. Check-in all deliveries and record discrepancies before delivery person leaves, and report to the Food Service Office.
  18. Responsible for meeting established deadlines for supply orders, reports and deposits.
  19. Responsible for security and safety of supplies, deposits and kitchen area.
  20. Responsible for organizing and training cafeteria employees on code red intruder drills, and maintains student safety.
  21. Ensure that all equipment in the cafeteria and kitchen is in safe and proper working condition.
  22. Inspects the kitchen, cooking and mixing utensils, and employees’ cleanliness for sanitation purposes.
  23. Responsible for notifying the Food Service Director and Maintenance office when repairs are needed to equipment.
  24. Must maintain temperature HACCP logs.
  25. Must be clean and neat in appearance.  

Performance Requirements:  

  • Responsible for all aspects of food production in assigned schools, ensuring sanitation practices are followed, food cost and labor cost, state regulations, district regulations, departmental regulations and personnel scheduling. To perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty successfully. Knowledge, Skill Abilities:  

  • Must be able to read and write English and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, students, and employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement and volume.
  • Ability to complete all reports required.
  • Ability to efficiently use Microsoft Office, point of sale systems, and online ordering portals.  

Communications:  

  • Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students, good organization and math skills.

Physical Effort:  

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., such as milk crates, boxes of frozen foods, dry goods, large bags of flour, and heavy pots and pans.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk and is continuously required to stand for long periods of time, the employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck, trunk and legs while performing the duties of this job. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and repeat the same hand/arm/finger motion many times. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and peripheral vision. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally work in temperatures over 80 degrees. The employee will occasionally spend time working in walk-in cooler and freezer temperatures.
  • Slip resistant shoes are required as kitchen areas are prone to slippery areas.

SPECIAL EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: 

  • PLAN FOR AND HOLD CHEER TRYOUTS FOR NEXT YEAR’S 7TH/8TH GRADE CHEERLEADERS,
  • COORDINATE PRACTICE PLANS,
  • SUPERVISE TEAM MEMBERS BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER PRACTICE.  MAKE SURE ALL MEMBERS HAVE LEFT BEFORE LEAVING,
  • DISCIPLINE WHEN NECESSARY,
  • COACH AND PLAYERS REPRESENT PHMS WITH HIGH MORAL CHARACTER,
  • COMMUNICATE WITH THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AND REPORT TO HIM WHEN NECESSARY,
  • MAKE SURE OUR CHEERLEADERS ARE PREPARED TO  COMPETE.

Additional Employment Information

In addition to insurance and retirement packages for certified employees, benefits for all regular employees (not substitute or stipend positions) include:

  • Access to Mooresville Schools Working Well Clinic for all employees (certified and non-certified, regardless of insurance status).
  • Before and after school care is provided free of charge for full-time employees as well as part-time employees who are working during before and after school care hours through the Mooresville Parks Rec&U program. Before school care hours are from 6:30a.m. to the start of elementary school while after school hours are from the end of elementary school to 6:00p.m. This care is for the employees’ dependents who are enrolled in an elementary school of Mooresville Schools. 
  • Free admission for the employee and a guest to Mooresville Schools regular-season, home athletic competitions.
