FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How may I prepare to take the test? You may wish to enroll in an adult basic education program, which provides free, individualized instruction during the regular school year for adults who have not earned a high school diploma.

What is the GED test? The GED Test offers adults who left school an opportunity to earn a high school credential. GED examinees must demonstrate major skills (twelfth grade competencies that would have been acquired in a four-year high school education) in a battery of tests covering five major subject areas.

Am I eligible to take the GED Test? You may take the test if you meet all of the following qualifications: You are at least 17 years of age. 17 year-olds must provide documentation showing 1.) Indiana exit interview showing withdrawal from school. 2.) Proof of passing GED practice test scores. 3.) You have lived in Indiana a minimum of 30 days immediately preceding the test. 4.) You have NOT earned a high school diploma from an accredited U. S. high school.

How much does it cost to take the test? At Mooresville the cost is $60.00 and covers all five sub-tests. You need to register and pay at least a week in advance of the test date, as long as there is space available. Bring your Indiana photo identification and at two other pieces of I.D. when you register (If you are 17, you must bring the required documentation listed above).

Where can I take the test? The test is given once a month at Mooresville High School except for the month of July. Be sure to call the center for its testing schedule and availability.

What scores do I need to pass? You must score at least 410 out of 800 possible points on each individual sub-test and have at least 2,250 total points to average 450 points on the whole test.

What if I fail the GED Test? You may retest as many times as needed to pass. After a waiting period, you may retake the sub-tests with scores below the minimum, at a cost of $12.00 per sub-test. A score of 2,150-2,240 requires a 30 day waiting period. Scores of 2,140 and below require a 90 day waiting period. There is a six-month waiting period should you fail the exam twice. We recommend classes before retesting.

Do I get a high school diploma if I pass the GED Test? No, but you will receive a GED High School Equivalency Diploma issued by the State of Indiana.
